Lake Bled in Slovenia

Well we have to admit that even though by traveling you get to see all kinds of places and you experience a lot you can rarely encounter something like this. Lake Bled is a glacial lake in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. The lake surrounds Bled Island, the only natural island in Slovenia. The island has several buildings, the main one being the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, built in the 15th century, where weddings are held regularly. The church has a stairway of 99 steps and a beautiful and touching tradition is that the groom carries his bride up these steps on their wedding day. Tourists love it because of it’s mystic and royal appearance and cultural rooting of the church. The lake is 2,120 meters (6,950 feet) long and 1,380 meters (4,530 feet) wide, with a maximum depth of 30.6 meters (100 feet) and is situated in a vivid environment, surrounded by mountains and forests. It is a famous spot for tourists, painters, writers and sportsmen because it gives a huge amount of inspiration. It offers sports activities like golf, boating, rowing, fishing, horse riding and trekking. Bled sometimes hosts the World’s Rowing Championships. Lake Bled is 55 km (34 miles) from the capital city Ljubljana.
